  8. * Samples of Psilocybe Cyanescens Astoria Ossip (from outdoor
  9. natural culture) and also Psilocybe Cubensis (cultivated on straw,
  10. indoors) and Psilocybe Semilanceata (collected from their natural
  11. habitat) were found to contain the following amounts (in % of dry
  12. weight) of alkaloids:

  25. These results are in very good agreement with the estimated
  26. relative potencies published in part 1.

  28. All samples had been dried below 30 xC, and stored refrigerated
  29. in airtight containers. Analyses were performed very recently by
  30. Dr. Jochen Gartz - certainly "the" European expert in this field -
  31. at the University of Leipzig. An American edition of Dr. Gartz's
  32. book "Narrenschwaemme", which contains a lot of information not to
  33. be found anywhere else, should be available this spring (3).

  35. (1) After ingestion, psilocybin is hydrolized to psilocin pretty
  36. rapidly and completely. 100 mg of psilocybin (C12H17N2O4P, MW=
  37. 284.3) are equivalent to 72 mg of psilocin (C12H16N2O, MW= 204.3),
  38. or - in oth"total" here refers to the (thus calculated, and rounded)
  39. equivalent of psilocybin.

  42. (2) Ps. Semilanceata also contained 0.2 % baeocystin (others only
  43. traces). Baeocystin has effects on humans very similar to those of
  44. psiloc(yb)in, but is weaker (per weight) (J.Gartz, pers. comm.)
